The Great British Care Awards recognise and celebrate excellence across the social care sector. CCL were finalists at this year’s event in three categories; Debbie Uzzell for The Care Trainer Award, The Opportunities Programme for The Care Team Award and Katy Russell for The Frontline Leader Award.

Debbie is CCL’s Quality Assurance Coordinator and ensures all new staff participate and complete a two-week induction training course, leading topics that include the Care Certificate and Health and Safety, which provide staff with the correct knowledge to support our residents straight away. Additionally, Debbie organises staff training courses and development days, using new and innovative learning styles.

CCL’s Opportunities Programme, which is managed by Katy Russell, provides an extensive range of activities on a daily basis. The Programme cares and supports people aged 18+ who have moderate to severe learning difficulties. CCL encourage and actively involve the learners to make choices and decisions about their own life. There is a strong focus on communication, learning new skills and gaining independence, whilst participating in a range of social and leisure activities within the local community.

Katy Russell is CCL’s Opportunities Programme Manager. Katy leads a team of staff to provide a programme of activities, care and support for adults with learning difficulties. Katy and her team work with parents and carers so that our learners develop at their own pace, whilst encouraging learners to reach their dreams and aspirations. Katy ensures her team are informed, supported and are well organised with flexible rotas that encourage staff to achieve a good work life balance. Additionally, Katy actively promotes the recognition of staff achievements throughout the year, with letters frequently sent praising staff efforts.

The awards evening was a great chance to support and appreciate the people making a difference within the care industry. CCL are immensely proud of our nominees and all of our staff that go above and beyond to care, support and encourage the people we support.

Congratulations to Katy for winning the Frontline Leader Award. This award was presented to Katy for her clear commitment to improving the delivery of care and support within her team. Katy has shown leadership qualities in her work by reflecting on what could be better and supporting others to bring about change.
