This years CCL Staff Annual Conference focused on the use and development of Storytelling in Communication. The event also provided the opportunity for workshops and to recognise staff achievements, with the presentation of the prestigious Steve McGill Award.
The Staff Annual Conference is an opportunity for CCL employees to learn something new, participate in thought-provoking workshops and celebrate staff achievements. This year Louise Coigley from Lis’n Tell spoke to staff about core techniques used in storytelling including rhyme, rhythm and repetition. It was great to see staff participating in the stories and using words and gestures to enhance the meaning of words. The session provided a variety of ideas that will really benefit staff and the people we support, enabling people to express themselves in a fun and creative way.
The conference also provided the opportunity to recognise and celebrate staff for the wonderful work they have achieved this year. CCL staff are consistently going above and beyond for the people we support. It was fantastic to be able to share stories of achievements and plans for the future.
The Steve McGill Award is presented to a staff member in recognition of their outstanding contribution to improving the life of our learners. This year the competition was considerably high and the Board of Management found it difficult to pick a clear winner. So, for the first time in CCL history we were pleased to announce that two people have been awarded the top prize; Katy Russell and Nicky Robinson. Congratulations to you both and well done to our four runners up.
Excitingly, this year CCL also had the pleasure of announcing that we have been shortlisted as a finalist in 3 categories at the Great British Care Awards. Katy Russell, the manager of Day Opportunities, is a finalist for the ‘Frontline Leader Award’, Katy Russell and The Days Opportunities Team are finalists for ‘The Care Team Award’ and Debbie Uzzell is a finalist for ‘The Care Trainer Award’. The winners will be announced on the 30th November at the Great British Care Awards Gala, a huge congratulations to you both.
