Since summer, The SLT Team have managed to get here, there and everywhere and involved in all sorts of projects….

Firstly, we have been involved in two of the charity events that have taken place to raise money for The CCL hydro fund and Hope House. Everyone was supported using individual communication strategies to choose what they would like to do to raise money and then to put their plans in to action. Both were great fun, promoted the use of Makaton and were a huge success.

The Social Skills group which have been meeting since summer has now come to an end. The whole group has done so well; they have learnt about what makes a good friend and Hannah Thomas is already putting this into practice, they have used pictures to be as independent as possible when shopping and following a recipe and they have got to know each other really well. Please keep this up!

To further encourage a Total Communication Approach we started The CCL Makaton Mission. This is in place to promote and develop the use of Makaton at CCL amongst staff and learners. Beth at High Ridges has been practising sign of the week and everyone at The Management Team Meeting have been practising their singing and signing! Hazel and Georgie volunteered to lead the song and as a thank you for their support and enthusiasm, won prizes for their houses.

This went down so well that we are looking out for any house/Tutor Group that has shown progress in the use of Makaton, communication strategies and/or the promotion of Learner Voice to be in with a chance of winning prizes.
