Although the sun didn’t shine, nothing could dampen the spirit at the Grafton Centre’s ‘Celebration Day’ —a heartfelt event filled with pride, laughter, and moments to remember. This annual tradition marks the end of another incredible academic year, bringing together students, families, staff, and community partners to honour progress, friendships, and future journeys.

Throughout the celebration, tutor groups took to the stage to share achievements ranging from qualification and exam passes to life skills development. Several students also completed their Duke of Edinburgh Awards, highlighting their resilience and adventurous spirit. Each student who was leaving education was celebrated with a video montage on the big screen—a touching tribute that brought smiles, tears, and applause in equal measure. For staff, it was a bittersweet moment to say goodbye, as they proudly and emotionally wished their students well on their next steps.

This year we celebrated all learners’ achievements, particularly the ten remarkable learners who made outstanding personal and educational achievements during their time at the College. From independent living milestones to academic successes, each individual was recognised for their unique growth. A standout moment came with the recognition of three students who completed the College’s first supported Internship—a proud achievement for both the students, employers, and the college. Local work placement partners, including staff from Dulson Training, Shrewsbury Town Council, and Severn Hospice, joined the celebration. Dulson Training presented one intern with a high-visibility uniform, symbolising the start of his new career path—an inspiring moment for everyone present.

A special highlight of the day was the unveiling of a new mosaic installation in the newly landscaped garden. Each piece of the mosaic was created by students at the college—a symbolic jigsaw puzzle that reflects the individual contributions and the sense of unity formed at Grafton.

The event continued into the afternoon with a hog roast served up by Jenny’s Catering, upbeat music from DJ and Singer Aaron W Evans, and the joy of a bouncy castle—creating a festival-like atmosphere that kept everyone smiling. Adding to the day’s charm, students sold produce and crafts from their enterprise projects, including homegrown vegetables, handmade bee houses and flower-jars.

This year also saw the Grafton Centre recognised nationally, with a win at the Natspec Innovation Awards for the Interdisciplinary Working Award—a huge accolade that reflects Grafton’s dynamic and collaborative approach to learning.

The Celebration Day marks the end of a transformative year—and the beginning of exciting new chapters.
