To celebrate apprenticeship week we want to share the story of our newest apprentice. Beth started work for CCL in May 2022 as an Apprentice Administration Assistant and has flourished in her role, assisting everyone in the office on a day-to-day basis whilst completing her Business Administration Apprenticeship.

Apprenticeships are a fantastic way to gain qualifications but at the same time gain valuable work experience.

I interviewed Beth to get an understanding of what it’s like being an apprentice for CCL and what it all involves.

Could you please introduce yourself to everyone?
I am Beth Tudor, I am currently completing my Business Administration Apprenticeship with CCL, based at the Shrewsbury Head Office. Outside of work, I love to go travelling, socialising with friends and I enjoy running.

What is your college background and why did you want to take the apprenticeship route?
I attended Shrewsbury Sixth Form College, where I studied Biology, Psychology and PE.  After finishing my A-levels I wasn’t sure what I wanted my next steps to be, but I knew I wanted to gain useful work experience, whilst continuing my education, so I decided to complete an Apprenticeship in Business Administration.

What made you choose CCL for your apprenticeship?
I chose CCL to complete my Apprenticeship because I was aware of the great work CCL do and working in any care environment is a very rewarding job. I knew that the opportunity to complete an Apprenticeship with CCL would be a great place to progress my career.  Another reason I choose CCL to complete my apprenticeship with was because of the many benefits they offer as a company, with continuous ongoing training and personal development, as well as a gym membership at The Shrewsbury Club.

What do you enjoy about an apprenticeship?
Completing an Apprenticeship allows me to enjoy the practical side of a working environment, whilst continuing to better myself and work towards achieving my qualification.  Working and studying means I can gain experience, which helps me to have a better understanding of my modules and means I can apply my experience to the course.  Throughout my entire Apprenticeship I have been continually supported by my College Tutor, Senior Managers and previous Apprentices, who continue to develop their careers at CCL.

Can you talk me through how your apprenticeship works?
As a Business Administration Apprentice, I am a paid employee and I gain valuable experience and knowledge, whilst working towards a recognised qualification.  Alongside my on the job training, I am allocated 20% of my working hours away from my day to day roles to complete classroom based tasks, such as pre-set module workbooks and writing reports based on tasks I have completed as part of my job role, all of which build my NVQ portfolio. The Apprenticeship takes between 12 -18 months to complete, as I work at a pace that suits me.  On completion of my classroom based work I will be assessed by completing a multiple choice assessment, a portfolio interview and an interview on a project that I have completed during my Apprenticeship.

What level apprenticeship are you doing and what do you want to do next?
I am currently completing my Level 3 Business Administration.  Upon completion of my qualification I would love to continue developing my career with CCL, as I love being part of the CCL team knowing how important their work is to the learner’s they support.

What duties do you carry out on a day to day basis working at CCL as an apprentice?
No two days are the same at CCL and each day brings a different challenge.  A day working at CCL includes supporting the team, organising essential training for all employees, and arranging completion of DBS checks.  Looking to the future at CCL, I am very excited about working alongside the team on a project to digitalise the way CCL works over the course of the next 12 months.

What are your career goals?
My career goals are to continue developing, gaining valuable experience, to go on and achieve more qualifications and in particular to progress with the CCL Company.

Thank you Beth for your time and we look forward to seeing you progress your career with CCL.
